NEW YEAR, LESS ME - Part 4, Seek Purpose Not Passion

February 17, 2020

What if the prize is in the PROCESS?
What if the reward is on the ROUTE?
What if the win is in the WORK?

We’re in Part 4 of New Year, Less Me, and this week our message centers around the idea that no matter season we’re in, God has a purpose that we can live out while we’re there. So instead of looking ahead to what’s next, our job is to find ways to honor God in there here and now of life.

As St. Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians 10:31, “Whatever you do, do ALL to the glory of God.”

NEW YEAR, LESS ME - Part 3, Letting Go vs Holding Back

February 12, 2020

You can be generous and not godly;
but you cannot be godly and not generous.

We’re in Part 3 of our latest series - New Year, Less Me - and this week we’re talking about everyone LEAST favorite topic to hear about in church…GIVING!

But even though we’re talking about giving, this message has nothing to do with money; rather it has everything to do with your heart. Because in the end, it’s not about how much you’re giving, but rather how much you’re holding back.

NEW YEAR, LESS ME - Part 2, How to be the G.O.A.T.

February 5, 2020

What does it take to the G.O.A.T. (greatest of all time)? Today Jesus answers that questions for us and what you’ll see is that His answer is the exact opposite of what we’re trained to believe today. The world teaches us to be great we must be self-serving and self-promoting; but Jesus says the exact opposite: my greatness is connected to my serving others.

NEW YEAR, LESS ME - Part 1, The Problem of Selfishness

January 27, 2020

At the start of every new year, we make resolutions and set goals about who we want to be and what we want to accomplish. But often these goals are focused on ourselves. We want to lose weight or save money or get a new job.

But to live the life God has for us, we must be willing instead to offer our lives in service to God and service to others, because "even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45).

3 Things I’ve Learned about Leadership

November 7, 2019

I know it’s hard to believe, but I’ll soon be completing my 18th year of priesthood (I guess that makes me an ADULT PRIEST now). I feel like 18 years is enough of a milestone where I can now officially “look back” and “reflect” on some lessons I’ve learned over the years. I feel wiser and more distinguished already!

I’ve noticed a lot of discussion recently about the topic of leadership.  What makes a good leader?  Can leadership be learned?  What are some do’s and don’ts of leadership?

What I Learned from Running A Half Marathon

October 30, 2019

Have you ever seen those stickers on cars that say 13.1?  Or 26.2?  I recently learned that those stickers (or magnets if you’re in the 21st century) signify that the person who owns it has run either a marathon (26.2 miles) or a half marathon (13.1 miles).  I never knew that.  But I do now.  Why?

BECAUSE I JUST RAN A HALF MARATHON BABY!  BOO YAH!!!!!

Fighting Life's Passion Killers

September 19, 2019

"If you are living out of a sense of obligation, you are slave."
Wayne Dyer

I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to be a slave to anything on this earth.  Being a slave means you don’t do things because you WANT to, but rather because you HAVE to.  There’s a big difference.

Nothing is more frustrating than living without passion and just going through the motions.  When there’s no passion, even the smallest and most trivial task becomes burdensome and exhausting.  However, when you’re passionate about something, the most challenging and difficult task seems enjoyable and something you look forward to.  Passion makes a world of difference!

My Wish for You This Year

September 9, 2019

If you ask any priest what his wish for his church would be, he’d probably say SPIRITUAL GROWTH. And I don’t disagree. But what does that look like?

In this week’s message, I talk about 4 things I as a priest wish for all the members of my church in this coming year. It’s more than just read the Bible and say your prayers. These are four things that I believe God wants to use deepen your faith and bring you closer to His perfect plan for your life.

Starting Small, Part 4 - MAKING IT STICK

August 26, 2019

How do you short term changes into long term habits? You need two things: the FAITH to believe and a PLAN to achieve.

That ‘s our topic in the final installment of Starting Small. We turn our attention to how to make those short term changes “stick” and last into the long term. To do that, you’ll need more than willpower. You’ll need some faith as well.

And don’t forget our key thought throughout this entire series: successful people do CONSISTENTLY what others do OCCASIONALLY.

Starting Small, Part 3 - HOW TO STOP

August 19, 2019

“Every decision is a small step towards something.”

We’re in Part 3 of Starting Small and this week we’re looking not at the good habits we want to start (see last week), but rather at the bad habits we want to STOP.

Why is it so hard to stop ____? Why can’t I just get past _____? When will I ever find victory over ____?

In this week’s message, we’ll talk about how the solution doesn’t lie in learning to fight HARDER, but rather in learning to fight SMARTER.

Why I Can't Wait for the Last Day of Summer

August 9, 2019

Below is a post I wrote almost six years ago - on the first day of school back in 2013. As I was re-reading, I realized that this is exactly how I’m feeling now - I CAN’T WAIT FOR SUMMER TO BE OVER! And it’s not just because I’m a party-pooper and the “fun police” as my kids call me, it’s because I see the value of structure, routine and SYSTEMS! And as I’m prepping for my second message in our latest series, STARTING SMALL, I thought this post would be the perfect lead in to prime the pump for Sunday. Enjoy!

Starting Small, Part 1 - START WITH WHO, NOT DO

August 5, 2019

After a few weeks off, I am BACK! We kicked off a new series yesterday, about a topic that is very near and dear to my heart.

The name of the series is Starting Small and the premise is simple: it’s the small things that no one sees, that lead to the BIG things everyone wants.

So if you’re looking to make some big changes in your life, check out part 1 above and get ready to start small.

HAPPY Part 5 - Blessed are the Peacemakers

July 1, 2019

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.” (Matthew 5:9)

What is peacemaking and why is it so important? Who exactly are we trying to make peace with? And why did Jesus connect “peacemaking” with being a “son of God”?

All that and more in the final installment of our series HAPPY.

HAPPY Part 4 - Blessed are the Merciful

June 24, 2019

We’re in Part 4 of our HAPPY series and this week we’re looking at Matthew 5:7, which says “Blessed are the merciful for they shall obtain mercy.”

Unfortunately, too many people today are allowing their happiness to be held captive for former hurts. In doing so, we end up enslaving ourselves to our past. But Jesus offers a way out - that is FORGIVENESS. Forgiveness frees me from the torture of resentment and it allows me to experience true freedom and true happiness within.

HAPPY Part 3 - Blessed are the Pure in Heart

June 17, 2019

“Blessed are pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8)

We’re talking about purity this week, but not the kind of purity that we usually think of. We’re not talking about pure eyes or pure thoughts or pure words; we’re talking about something much more significant to your happiness in life: PURITY OF HEART!

What is purity of heart and how do I attain it? Check out part 3 in our series HAPPY and find out for yourself.

HAPPY Part 2 - Blessed are Those Who Mourn

June 10, 2019

“Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.” (Matthew 5:4)

We’re in Part 2 of our series HAPPY and this week’s topic is a hard one to grasp. That’s because - according to Jesus (pretty reliable source) - we discovered that MOURNING can actually be a pathway to HAPPINESS. Who knew?

HAPPY Part 1 - Blessed are the Poor in Spirit

June 3, 2019

We kicked off a brand new series yesterday and the title is sure to peak your interest: HAPPY.

The series is based on the Beatitudes in Matthew 5 where Jesus gives us 8 ways to be blessed (or happy). But not in the way you’d expect! You must mourn to find comfort. You must hunger to be filled. You must be poor to find riches.

Because Christ gave us victory through His suffering, we too can find hope and victory in life’s hurts and pains. God willing, through this series, we can also discover the path to true, long-term healing.
