Faith Before Politics

July 4, 2016

We took a break from our Ancient Faith in a Modern World series this past Sunday to talk about a topic that is everyone’s mind these days…ELECTION INFECTION!

What’s that?  That’s the infection that’s running rampant in America these days and no one is exempt from it.  So as we celebrate the independence of our country on the 4th of July, I thought it would be fitting to talk about how we – as followers of Jesus Christ – should be approaching this coming election – the most volatile and emotionally charged election in U.S. history.

So if you’re looking for a conversation starter at the BBQ today, check out this message – titled FAITH BEFORE POLITICS – and you’ll have plenty of material!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Two Questions from GOD’S NOT DEAD 2

April 6, 2016

I don’t know about you, but I LOVE the fact that we’re seeing so many movies about faith and Christianity these days.  It seems like every month, there’s a new movie that not only entertains but also inspires.  And I LOVE IT!!!

The latest Christian movie to hit the big screen is called GOD’S NOT DEAD 2 – which opened up at #4 on weekend box office charts (followed by another Christian movie, Miracles from Heaven, at #5).

On Monday night, the STSA church family rented out a theater and watched the movie together.  And it was GREAT!  Two thumbs up if you ask me!  What I loved about it was that it really made you think – not think to try to figure out the plot line or “whodunit” – but think about much greater issues in life and society.

Today, I want to share two questions that I walked away with and give you a chance to ask any questions you might have as well – either via the comments section below or on my weekly Periscope at 12:30 pm EST

America, Bless God!

July 24, 2015

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”  (Psalm 33:12)

NOTE:  This is a follow up to Fr. Anthony's 4th of July post, "A Call to Prayer" by Ben Franklin.  If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend that you check it out.

In Ben Franklin's prayer at the Constitutional Convention, you could see that he was a man struggling to find answers. And he also knew that if he didn't call upon the Lord's help, they would have been right back at square one.

When I first read that prayer, I thought about America's current struggles and thought to myself: "Every single word that Ben Franklin uttered can be said today."

What I Learned from Last Night’s Presidential Debate

October 4, 2012

“This is fascinating!”  That’s what I told my wife when she came downstairs at 10:00 last night and saw me sitting in front of the television watching the Presidential debate between President Obama and Governor Romney.  It must have been captivating to keep me awake that late; but I couldn’t resist.  It was “must-see” TV.

I wasn’t coming downstairs to watch the debate – to be honest, I didn’t even know there was a debate.  I don’t really follow the news and I especially don’t follow politics.  To me, “watching the news” means the latest edition of SportsCenter and “the debate” means watching Kornheiser and Wilbon face off on PTI.  That’s the extent of my knowledge of current events.

But I couldn’t resist last night.  It was scintillating stuff.  The way these guys were able to address one another face to face was great.  You really got to see not just what each candidate is proposing on paper (which I wouldn’t understand anyway), but rather how each candidate thinks.  To me, that is infinitely more important.  Why?  Because "as a man thinks in his heart, so is he" (Proverbs 23:7).
