What's On My Mind as We Approach Election Day

November 4, 2016

That’s it America.  We’re almost there.  Only four days left till the booths are opened and the most heated Presidential election of our lifetime takes place.

Most Americans – regardless of political party affiliation – are anxious about what is going to happen to our country as a result of this election.  Each side fears the worst if “the other candidate” wins.

She’s gonna ruin our country…

He’s gonna start a world war…

How can I support someone like that to be my president?

And the list goes on and on.

While the entire world sits on the edge of its collective seat to see what will happen on Tuesday, I wanted to share some of my concerns and worries as we approach this election as well.

Faith Before Politics

July 4, 2016

We took a break from our Ancient Faith in a Modern World series this past Sunday to talk about a topic that is everyone’s mind these days…ELECTION INFECTION!

What’s that?  That’s the infection that’s running rampant in America these days and no one is exempt from it.  So as we celebrate the independence of our country on the 4th of July, I thought it would be fitting to talk about how we – as followers of Jesus Christ – should be approaching this coming election – the most volatile and emotionally charged election in U.S. history.

So if you’re looking for a conversation starter at the BBQ today, check out this message – titled FAITH BEFORE POLITICS – and you’ll have plenty of material!

Happy 4th of July everyone!

Christianity & America

September 1, 2015

As many of you know, I recently returned from a two week mission trip to Kenya with my family.  That trip made me think a lot about what mission is and how it applies to life back here in America. In this week’s message, I share those thoughts and how I believe the concept of “mission” translates to the United States of America.

How does "mission" work in America?  Are we supposed to be knocking on people’s doors with Bibles in our hands?  Does the idea of mission even apply to life in America?

How can we – the Christians in America – make an impact on our nation and bring it back to its Christian roots?

That’s the topic in this week’s message.  Hope you enjoy.  And may God bless America.

America, Bless God!

July 24, 2015

“Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD, the people He has chosen as His own inheritance.”  (Psalm 33:12)

NOTE:  This is a follow up to Fr. Anthony's 4th of July post, "A Call to Prayer" by Ben Franklin.  If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend that you check it out.

In Ben Franklin's prayer at the Constitutional Convention, you could see that he was a man struggling to find answers. And he also knew that if he didn't call upon the Lord's help, they would have been right back at square one.

When I first read that prayer, I thought about America's current struggles and thought to myself: "Every single word that Ben Franklin uttered can be said today."

My Opinion on Today’s Election

November 6, 2012

Well, it’s finally here.  Election Day 2012 – one of the most highly anticipated election days ever.  President Obama vs Governor Romney.  Who will win?  Where is this nation headed in the next four years?  What happens next?

Those who know me know that I am not at all into politics.  As I wrote about before, this was the first year I’ve ever actually watched a presidential debate.  I’ve always been more interested in my local sports team than in my local government (and speaking of which, please send up a prayer for my Redskins – they need it these days!).

But that doesn’t mean I don’t have a strong opinion on this election and where our nation is headed after it’s over.  My opinion this year is very strong and I couldn’t let today go by without expressing it and making it abundantly clear.
