Did You Say the "A" Word?

November 28, 2018

It’s the word that no one likes to hear.  It’s uncomfortable.  It’s intimidating.  And at times, it’s downright frightening.  The mere mention of this word brings to mind a myriad of emotions and rarely are any of them positive ones.  But regardless of how negative our perception of this word might be, we all know we need to hear it and more importantly, we need to do it!

What is it that word?  ACCOUNTABILITY

The One Thing You Need to Make 2017 Great

December 28, 2016

Merry Christmas everyone!  I know Christmas was three days ago but it seems like the party’s just ending now.  I think because it fell on a weekend, this year’s Christmas felt more like a week-long event as opposed to just one day.

And in case you’re wondering how I spent that week, below are a few of the many highlights from an action-packed week:

  • I took Michael to his first ever Redskins game on Monday night.  After four hours in 26 degree weather, we were each wondering how many toes we had left because we simply couldn’t feel any of them.
  • I spent five hours in a shopping mall with my wife and kids as we divided up and did our Christmas shopping all at the same time.  It’s probably been since the late 1980's since I last purchased an item from a mall.  No joke.
  • I turned into the “hostess with the mostess” as Marianne and I invited close friends or family members over to our home 4 times in a 5 day period.  For a family of introverts like us, that’s record-breaking!

The Day I Discovered that Blue Isn't Purple

    September 11, 2013

I hate being wrong.  Of course no one enjoys it when they are mistaken, but some people tend to be more experienced at it than others and therefore better able to deal with it (wink wink).

Once upon a time, back when I was just a young lad in 4th grade, I learned a valuable lesson about self-deception.  I learned that being “wrong” is bad; but what’s worse is being wrong and having everyone else realize it except you.

My 4th grade teacher had given us an assignment to create a large poster with all the creatures of the sea that we had just learned about in class.  So I – being a studious young man from a young age – took great care to systematically go through the chapter and draw each animal that the textbook mentioned (we didn’t need to draw them all, but as you can see I was an overachiever from a young age).

    Stop Deceiving Yourself!

    June 7, 2012

Do you know someone who is delusional?  We all do, don’t we?  I’ll bet that you know at least one person who thinks they’re funny, but they’re not.  Or who thinks they can sing, but they can’t.  Or someone who thinks they’re doing the right thing, but they clearly aren’t.

We all know someone who can’t see the reality of the situation at hand.  Well, here’s my question to you based on just simple math.  If every one of us knows someone who is delusional and who can’t see reality for what it is, then what are the chances that THAT PERSON IS ME?
