Being God’s favourite

June 15, 2018

Having a twin sister, for many people I am “one out of two”, sometimes I am “the other one”, but often just “one of the twins”. Don’t get me wrong, I love my sister, but it’s also human of me to wish to be seen as the one independent person I am and to be loved as such.

Now I realized that many people feel the same way. We feel like we’re just “one of …”. We feel like we’re just “one of the church-goers”, “one in the group”. Some people feel like they’re only “the brother of …”, “the mother of …”, “the friend of …”. We often feel like we’re just “one out of many” and this hurts, because when we love in a special way, we want to be loved back in a special way too.

Now for the good news.

I Am My Father's Son - IDENTITY CRISIS, Part 2

November 2, 2015

“Yet to all who received Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God — children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but BORN OF GOD.”  (John 1:12-13)

Week 2 of IDENTITY CRISIS: The Search for Meand the first characteristic that we need to understand is what it means to be a CHILD of God - a son or daughter of the Creator/King of the universe.

The most important thing you need to know about being a child of God is this: my identity is based on who HE IS more than it is based on who I AM or what I DO.

What does that mean practically?  Check out the video above and see for yourself.  Trust me, of all the things you need to know about yourself and your identity, NONE IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THIS.  Enjoy!

The Mystery of God's Love

November 22, 2013

"What’s God’s will for my life?"  That’s gotta be the #1 question people want answered.  But in order for us to decipher God’s INDIVIDUAL will for our lives, we must first discover God’s GENERAL will for us – His overarching desire God for all His children.

The Bible mentions many components of this general will of God (love your enemies, honor your parents, in everything give thanks, etc.) but I would like to share about just one for today – based on two verses from Scripture:

[God] “desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth.”  (1 Timothy 2:4)

“And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”  (John 17:3)

The Gift of Liberty

July 19, 2013

"If the Son sets you free, you shall be free indeed." - Jesus

Recently, I've been thinking about the idea of liberty and what it really means. Growing up in the United States, I didn't realize how rare it is in the world.  Oppression was just a history lesson – an exception rather than a rule.  But in traveling to different parts of the world for my job (not to mention in turning on the television every day), I've seen that this isn't the case.

Instead, the world attests to countless people whose souls yearn for freedom but can’t find it. You can hear it in their conversations, in their arguments, in their songs, and in their protests and marches.  They come from every religious and social background.  They sit in smoke-filled coffee shops and large squares either dreaming of or fighting for their freedom.

What Makes Me a True Child of God

September 7, 2012

As a parent, if there’s one lesson that I’ve learned repeatedly over the years, it’s this: as much as I know that God has many things that He wants me to teach my children, He has an equal number of things that He wants me to learn from them.

Last night was one of those nights.  All week I’ve been thinking/blogging about the idea of hearing God’s voice and discerning His will – how to make decisions and how to know what’s right, etc.  And then last night, during our family Bible time before bed, we read this passage:

“Who is My mother and who are My brothers?” And He stretched out His hand toward His disciples and said, “Here are My mother and My brothers!  For whoever does the will of My Father in heaven is My brother and sister and mother.” (Matthew 12:48-50)

After reading that passage, we discussed it together as a family and my kids came to the following conclusion: we need to obey God to be in His family.
